Today is the last day of the boys two weeks of Spring Break - they always have the week before and after Easter off of school. We have been here in Guadalajara for most of it, but also took a few days to go to Mexico City, a 6 hour drive away.
We had a bit of paperwork that we needed to do there, so we took advantage of it and went for the weekend with friends from here in Guadalajara.
Going on holidays with another family does change up the dynamics a little, but thankfully we know this family well and so talking about what to do and how much we are willing to spend on activities is ok to do with them. In general the people we are working with here are from a middle to high class of Mexico and therefore most of our friends do have more money than we do, and are also willing to spend money on things we may not be (we are Mennonite afterall! ha). So we are thankful for these types of friendships where those things don't matter.
The main thing we all wanted to do there was go to Six Flags! So we spent a whole day there. There were looong line-ups so we didn't get to do nearly all the rides we wanted to but it was a fun time. Brady is our most fearless rider, even though he's only 6 and too short for the big rides.
We made one mistake and that was going on the water ride....we were soaked. It would be fine and we normally love those rides but Mexico City happens to be a cooler city and it was mostly cloudy and we froze afterwards. I could not stop shaking!
Resulting in some new, dry souvenirs to warm up with.
And then a few hours later, in the evening, it started pouring rain and we were all soaking wet again. But by then it was 10 pm and we were starving so we piled into an Argentinian Taco restaurant that we found (bit of a strange combo there!), wet and cold and bedraggled and ordered some hot chocolate and coffee and tacos.
The next day was Easter Sunday, so we gathered in our hotel room and read the Resurrection story together as families (they are also believers).
Then we headed to Teotihuacan, which are ruins from when the group of native Mexicans called Teotihuacanes lived there.
Logan felt his tongue was important to photograph. Those were some good homemade popsicles.
Afterwards we were again starving and headed to a nearby restaurant for some food. The boys had their favorite Mexican food - flautas, which is chicken rolled up inside a deep friend tortilla, with toppings. Brady's favorite lately has been frijoles charros, which is a little bowl of bean soup with pork and other things. We also save on costs that way as frijoles charros often comes as a side dish with a meal that you order and Brady thinks he has ordered his own food ;)
Our friends headed back home to Guadalajara on Sunday afternoon, and we stayed one more night so that we could get our paperwork done first thing Monday morning. By 1 pm we were on the road headed for home.
