Prayers for the Rempening family
This morning, Dallas flew up north to Chihuahua to attend a funeral. The wife of one our Conference pastors there (Walter Rempening - also the Conference president) passed away very suddenly this past week. It was shocking to everyone and it has been on our minds and in our prayers since we found out.
Dallas and LeRoy flew up there early this morning for the funeral, and my mind has been up north there with them all day! We knew her fairly well and she was just a wonderful woman and together with her husband, leaders in the church conference that we worked with there. It makes it hard to concentrate on other things.
This afternoon I knew I had to make 2 birthday cakes though, and I wasn't looking forward to it after this news and Dallas being gone. Tomorrow we had already arranged to have both Carter and Logan's birthday parties at school. Their birthdays are on Dec.22 and Jan.2 but those are both during Christmas holidays so we are doing it early with their friends (most kids do parties at school during lunchtime). But I started this afternoon, and the boy's excitement for it was contagious, and I really enjoyed it!
I felt peace in this house today...God's peace. My mind and heart in 2 places but still here with the boys, enjoying the day with them and being thankful for their lives. I normally really do not like baking with the boys...I do it sometimes but I often end up exasperated at how messy the kitchen gets and how many times the boys stick their fingers into the food etc etc
Today they helped a lot though and each knew specifically what they wanted their cake to look like (based on pinterest pictures, mommy's head, and their own very clear ideas) so that was fun. And Brady wandered around all afternoon throwing his hands into the air and yelling out "Angry BIRDS!" like an announcement of some sort.

Ministry news
Yesterday I updated our team blog with news about the 2013 Prayer Team. This is a one week team that comes in February to pray here with us, and anyone of you from our churches can be a part of it! If you're interested, go on over and check it out.
I know I rarely update about our ministry on this blog, I do most of that on the team blog. But today is our 2nd Kids Club this fall so can you please pray that the kids will come again?? Last week we had a good turn out so we're praying for that again. The lesson today is about how to become part of God's family and who can all become part of His family {everyone!}.
Another weekly ministry we have is a Bible study at our house, We've had it every Friday night since February, and we love it! Dallas and I study together with two other families and we have such great discussions and also laugh a ton together. Due to one person's work though, we'll now have to change it to Saturdays around noon so that will change the dynamics I'm sure. It seems like an odd time for a study, but it's the only time that works, so we're praying this will be a positive thing and who knows, maybe some people will be able to attend now that weren't able to on Friday evenings.
Well, Dallas is home now from taking the boys to school and Brady is up so it's time to continue on with the day! Time for the rest of Kids Club prep.

today in sentences
My parents are arriving in 5 1/2 hours!! The visit will be short but hopefully it feels really, really long :-) I love having them come to visit.
The boys are also super excited to see their Grandparents. It's nice that they have a good connection with them even though we live out here.
I bought some awesomely shaped tiny yellow pumpkins (or maybe they're squash) yesterday. That'll be the extent of my fall decorating.
I mentioned in a previous post that we had our first baptism! I blogged about it this morning on our Team Guadalajara blog.
Carter and I prayed yesterday that my friend, and his friend - the daughter - would come to Bible study. She is feeling a pull to God but had yet to put action to what she was feeling, but yesterday she came with her daughters!! We were very excited as she is a friend we met over a year ago now.
When Carter saw his prayer had been answered, he said, "but how did they hear God telling them?"
And then he said "sometimes in the middle of the night I ask God for chocolate. I'm hoping He'll give me some".
so this morning Dallas had written a note with "To Carter and Logan, love God" and put some choclates on it for them to see in the morning. hahaha. Carter saw it and the look on his face was priceless, like amazement but doubt. ha. I confessed that his daddy had done it. But in a round-a-bout way, is that not answered prayer ?! :-)
Carter was begging me this morning to let him help get the guest room ready for Grandpa and Grandma. So I gave him a wipe and said, wash the walls (necessary since Brady normally sleeps there and has his little feet up on the walls...)

The 30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 29
{something you could never get tired of doing}
I really don't know if there is anything I would never get tired of doing! I asked Dallas what my answer would be and he says "drinking coffee". But eventually I do get tired of that...although it does take a while...
Some things I really like doing and could do for a while though are....
playing games
drinking coffee
hanging out with my family
hanging out with certain friends
sit in the bathtub with a good book
hold one of the boys on my lap with their blanket, as long as they're relaxed and mellow and not fidgety :-)
be on a holiday with just Dallas
well this could go on and on...

Coming today
Our 2012 Prayer Team is arriving later this afternoon and there is much to do today to get ready. Maybe not so much to get ready for them coming, but things I need to get done today that I won't have time to get done the rest of the week that they're here :-)
The 2011 Prayer Team that was here a year ago was very instrumental in helping choose the area of the city that we would be working in and we're excited to see how this week goes. We do believe God will speak to the team and to all of us that are praying together with them for specific areas and requests throughout this week.
I've done several prayer walks before and several hour prayer retreats...but this will be the first time of spending a whole week where almost every activity is dedicated to prayer!
Right now for the ladies Bible study I'm a part of we're studying "Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed" and this week we've been discussing prayer....
HAHAHAHA oh my...I was just looking over my Bible study book right now to find a certain quote I wanted to share and I came across one of my answers I wrote yesterday...
the question is: "What did the Lord 'declare' to him (David) in the latter part of verse 11 (2 Sam.7)?
I wrote: "That he would have rest from all of his emails".
oh boy.
It should be, that he would have rest from all of his enemies.
My mind may have been wandering a tad there.
ok, back to that quote...
We were talking about how important it is to go to God, first, before making a decision or before acting on something. And then after talking with God, wait to hear what He wants the decision to be before acting.
"While he (David) chose to seek the Lord in silence and solitude before making another move, culture teaches us to fight fast hard, and furious. Our society encourages activity and busyness, especially when it appears that specific action is required...David's example shows us his strength. He determined that the wisest thing he could do was to spend time seeking God's direction. One of the most incredible benefits of having God's Spirit is access to the ear of God..."
I admit I like to make fast decisions, let's get this over with...but often when it's a more serious decision I hem and haw over it forever and get anxious about it, until I remember again the importance of sitting down and talking with God. I've loved our Tuesday morning for that...Dallas and I have started dedicating time while the boys are napping to sit down (usually on our own), I like to sit in the backyard, and spend time praying. I use a prayer journal b/c I like reading back on it and seeing how God answered prayers and to be reminded of the people I'm still praying for.

"Why wouldn't we take advantage of having the ear of God turned in our direction? Only if we believe He's not listening or if we don't believe He has the ability and desire to assist us in time of need. If we truly believed the great God of the universe listens intently to the cry of our hearts and responds with power in our circumstances, we would never meet any circumstance without deciding to access the ear of God."

Later, or maybe it was before, the book also says that we must believe that God is kind and good...like it says, only if we don't believe God is not listening to us would we choose not to talk with him and cry out to Him. I've felt in the past that perhaps God wasn't listening...but those were times when perhaps I didn't get what I was praying for...but at some point we need to put aside what's happened that didn't go how we wanted it to, and take the life we have and thrive in it and cry out to God and talk with Him...because He truly is good and while we never may understand why certain things happened or why God did such and such, the one thing we can understand that we can trust God anyways and move on.
Just some of my thoughts this morning. I share this with myself just as much as you, as I work to trust in God's plan for certain things that I'm praying about right now (and often even as I pray for specific things to happen...it is a lot about God changing my heart in these things or giving me peace in them...as those parts of trusting are just as important as "getting what we asked for")
all right, so my list for today. yes I'm a missionary but I don't sit around all day praying...for moments yes and as I go yes, but we still do have everyday things to do :-)
- pay the house rent
- clean the laundry room
- do 2 loads of laundry
- get the guest room ready for our team billet
- finish painting the bookshelf
- put everything back on the bookshelf and clean up the office
- go grocery shopping
- clean the house a little
- watch last night's Amazing Race :-)
on to it, then!

I'm here!
for a change :-)
I've been posting over on our team blog but thought I could write a few more personal notes over here!
We have been having a really great time with our new team! We have a mixture of people and from 2 countries but we have blended really well and we've had a lot of laughs and talks already. One of our members from Chihuahua knows English quite well and the other catches a lot of it so the amount of translating needed has been less than we thought, although we do talk a lot in both English and Spanish so translating is often needed! We have felt really encouraged by this team though.
Albert and Josie and their 2 boys are staying with us, we are loving having a full house :-) plus we've had a lot of sessions and debriefing here and have kept the coffee flowin'. The kids are all still getting used to being around each other and the "oldest" children tend to like their space a little more which is sometimes hard to come by but the routine is getting there. Our 3 boys are all sharing a room these weeks and it's not too bad, I thought Logan would be waking Brady up majorly early but he hasn't been. And us couples are getting along great...as far as we know.....
Rain, rain, rain!! There is a hurricane that was passing along the west coast here {about 4 hours away} but we have definately seen the side effects of it!! We've had rain for the last 2 days pretty well non-stop which has really changed up our schedule. It has worked and we've learned a lot in our sessions but we're ready to get outdoors and into larger spaces for us all and so the kids can really let lose rather than confine themselves to inside and "quiet (er) voices..."

Pan Am
Our Pan American ministry team arrives this evening! They are all flying over the US or Mexico as we speak and will be here late...like midnight I'm guessing by the time they actually get to our house!
So I probably won't be blogging AS much on this blog....but I will definately be blogging quite a bit on this blog. So keep tabs on that one and check it out! And don't forget to pray for all of us and our ministry for the next month :-)

Team GDL post
